PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively produce basic copper carbonate when the basic copper carbonate used, e.g., as a raw material for copper plating is produced by a reaction of an aqueous solution of a carbonate with an aqueous solution of a copper salt. SOLUTION: When the basic copper carbonate is produced by a reaction of a reaction solution comprising an aqueous solution of a carbonate and an aqueous solution of a copper salt, an aqueous alkali hydroxide solution is added to the reaction solution, carbon dioxide generated by the reaction of the carbonate with the copper salt is absorbed by the aqueous alkali hydroxide solution to form a carbonate, and this carbonate is reused in the reaction for producing the basic copper carbonate, whereby the production quantity of basic copper carbonate is increased relatively to the quantity of the carbonate supplied as a raw material.
