<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress power consumption and provide excellent operability in a remote controller for lighting up an operation key. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The remote controller is provided with a plurality of operation keys for performing remote control and a light-emitting operation key. When the operation key is operated without operating the light-emitting operation key, remote operation of a controlled device is performed without lighting up the operation key. When the light-emitting operation key is operated, all of the operation key and the light-emitting operation key are lighted up and, when the operation key is operated at regular intervals, lighting up is maintained. Moreover, when the operation key is not operated for a prescribed period, lighting up is stopped, and the operation key is operated within a prescribed period afterward, lighting up is performed even if the light-emitting operation key is not operated.
