<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a weatherstrip for an automobile having a larger gripping force against a flange of a vehicle body in response to the need of weight reduction in the automobile without using an insert. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This weatherstrip for the automobile is characterized in that a trim 20 of the weatherstrip 10 forms a cross-sectional substantial U shape composed of a vehicle outside sidewall 21, a bottom wall 23 and a vehicle inside sidewall 22, and an outside surface of a corner between the bottom wall 23 and the vehicle outside sidewall 21, and the bottom wall 23 and the vehicle inside sidewall 22 is formed at an angle of 90 degrees-100 degrees, and a vehicle outside sidewall thick part 21c and a vehicle inside sidewall thick part 22c forming a step height by projecting inwardly in a cross-sectional U shape are formed from the vehicle outside sidewall 21 and the vehicle inside sidewall 22 in an inside corner of the corner between the bottom wall 23 and the vehicle outside sidewall 21 and an inside corner of the corner between the bottom wall 23 and the vehicle inside sidewall 22, and the vehicle outside sidewall 21, the bottom wall 23 and the vehicle inside sidewall 22 are formed of hard materials of rubber or thermoplastic elastomers.
