PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base isolation structure exerting a base isolation effect to a superstructure against a huge earthquake, suppressing swings of the superstructure caused by winds of typhoon and further working effectively to an earthquake of middle and minor scale. SOLUTION: The base isolation structure 5 configured so that isolating layers 5a, 5a consisting of a plurality of base isolation bearing members 51 laid in line are laminated one over another with isolating layer partitioning member(s) 52 interposed in between, to permit a relative displacement in the horizontal direction of the superstructure 1 with respect to a substructure 2 arranged under the lowermost isolating layer 5a while supporting the weight of the superstructure 1 arranged on the uppermost isolating layer 5a. Dampers 3 and 4 to damp vibrations in the horizontal direction are installed in each object division for damping the vibrations consisting of one isolating layer 5a, 5a or a plurality of isolating layers 5a adjoining over and under.
