PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the occurrence of color displacement while reducing the apparatus cost without wasting the life of parts. SOLUTION: The color image forming apparatus comprises a photoreceptor, and a plurality of photoreceptors 26Y, 26M, 26C and 26Bk corresponding to each color, disposed along the moving direction of a member to have transfer for having a toner image transferred. The peripheral surface speed of the photoreceptors producing no toner image onto the member to have transfer is controlled so that at least the load of producing a toner image onto the member to have transfer with a part of the photoreceptors may approach a reference load generated between all the photoreceptors and the member to have transfer at the time all the photoreceptors produce a toner image onto the member to have transfer.
