PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating apparatus for a steel bar by which the steel bar is surely cooled with simple constitution without spoiling a coating film formed on a surface of the steel bar, in particular a surface of a deformed steel bar. SOLUTION: The coating apparatus 10 for the steel bar comprises a conveying means for conveying the steel bar 15 in an axial direction, a heating means for preheating the steel bar 15 conveyed by the conveying means, a coating means for carrying out electrostatic splay of the powder coating material onto the surface of the steel bar 15 preheated by the heating means and a cooling means 30 for water-cooling the steel bar subjected to electrostatic splay of the powder coating material. The cooling means 30 comprises a cooling tank 31 which has an entrance and an exit along a passageway of the steel bar 15, returning means 32, 33 for returning cooling water discharged from the entrance of the cooling tank to a water storage tank, the water storage tank 34 for holding the cooling water at predetermined temperature and a water supply means 35 for supplying the cooling water from the water storage tank 34 from a water supply port provided at an exit side of the cooling tank 31 toward an entrance side.
