PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an acrylic copolymer capable of obtaining an acrylic adhesive composition having less decrease in adhesion strength after standing under a high temperature and a high humidity. SOLUTION: This method for producing the copolymer by polymerizing based on the 100 wt.% total of monomer components, a 54 to 78 wt.% alkyl acrylate, 20 to 34 wt.% acrylonitrile and 2 to 12 wt.% functional group-containing methacrylate having at least one of functional groups selected from the group consisting of a carboxyl group, a hydroxy group, an acid anhydride group, an amino group, an amide group and an epoxy group is characterized by mixing the total amounts of the alkyl acrylate and the acrylonitrile with the 30 to 70 wt.% of the total amount of the functional group-containing methacrylate, polymerizing up to the 20 to 50% rate of polymerization, and further mixing the rest of 30 to 70 wt.% of the total amount of the functional group-containing methacrylate to polymerize.
