摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable variable wavelength dispersion compensation at low cost and at a high speed, and moreover, in an effective manner. <P>SOLUTION: In an automatic wavelength dispersion compensation method and system, such that a variable wavelength dispersion compensator 2 is installed in the intermediate part of an optical fiber transmission path 1, an optical transmission signal passing through the variable wavelength dispersion compensator 2 is converted into an electrical signal by an optical receiver 3; and the influence of signal distortions due to wavelength dispersion in a receiver side is obtained, and a proper compensation amount is fed back to the compensator 2. In this method and system, the optical receiver 3, a band-pass filter 4 and a power meter 5 are used to measure the optical signal intensity of the frequency components close to the null point which is determined by the relation, with a bit rate of the transmission optical signal per modulation system from an electric spectrum after transmission of the optical transmission signal; and a compensation quantity is determined by a control quantity calculating section 6, and the variable wavelength dispersion compensator 2 is feedback-controlled via a compensator drive circuit 7 so that the signal intensity is minimized. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
