<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for more simply and accurately deciding the quality of embryos. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The embryo observation apparatus includes the following sections. An image-obtaining section 61 photographs an embryos set to a microscope as a sample with a camera in time series to obtain observation images, and supplies the obtained observation images to an observation section 62. The observation section 62 detects embryo cleavage on the basis of the obtained observation images and pursues each cell division in the embryo. A grading section 81 determines a time required for the division of each cell of the same generation in embryos at a prescribed timing on the basis of cell division information supplied from the observation section 62, and calculates the grading value of the embryo.
