<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a television receiver which can obtain a further power saving effect by adding face recognition and eyelid opening/closing detection functions to it. <P>SOLUTION: A camera 15 which picks up a viewer, and a face recognition/eyelid opening/closing detection processor 21 which processes a video image picked up with the camera 15 to detect a face, opening/closing of eyelids of the viewer are attached to the television receiver 1, and the face of a person who views the television receiver 1 is detected to detect whether the eyelids of the person are closed or opened. At least either of video output or sound output of the television receiver 1 is stopped or turned into a standby state after time in which the face of the person can not be detected continues for fixed time. In addition, even when the face of the person is detected, opening/closing states of the eyelids are observed, and output of at least either of the video output or the sound output of the television receiver 1 is stopped or turned into the standby state when time in which the eyelids are closed continues for the fixed time.
