<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin film, an optical compensation film, a polarizing plate excellent in viewing angle characteristics and a liquid crystal display, having few planar failures caused by bleed-out, volatilization, adhesion and the like of an additive to production apparatuses, substantially optically isotropic with small optical anisotropy (Re, Rth), moreover having small wavelength dispersion of the optical anisotropy (Re, Rth). <P>SOLUTION: The resin film includes smectite or mica, a compound having at least 2 aromatic rings and smectite or mica modified by onium cations and a polymer having a weight average molecular weight equal to or more than 700 and less than 3,000.
