摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of machining a glass substrate for a magnetic disk, which efficiently finishes an outer periphery end surface of the glass substrate for the magnetic disk with high quality at a low cost while allowing stable grinding. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the method of machining the glass substrate for the magnetic disk, an end surface of the glass substrate is machined by bringing a grindstone into contact with the outer periphery end surface of the glass substrate to grind the end surface while a grinding liquid is supplied to the end surface part of the disk-like glass substrate. The grindstone is formed in a cylindrical shape and has a groove shape on its inner periphery side and the groove shape is so formed that both surfaces of a sidewall surface and a chamfered surface of the outer periphery end surface of the glass substrate can be simultaneously ground. Both surfaces of the sidewall surface and the chamfered surface of the end surface of the glass substrate are ground by bringing the outer periphery end surface of the glass substrate into contact with the inner periphery of the grindstone and relatively moving the glass substrate and the grindstone.
