摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical parking system which can reduce production costs occupied by a traversing mechanism, even if a large number of vehicles are parked, without making each storage shelf require a traversing mechanism for a traverse motion of a vehicle; and to provide a control method for the mechanical parking system. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This mechanical parking system is equipped with an ascending/descending carriage 10 which ascends/descends through a vertical hoisting passage 2 in the state of loading the vehicle, and the plurality of storage shelves 20 which adjoin each other in the vehicle width direction of the hoisting passage and which are arranged at vertical spacings. The storage shelf 20 is provided with a shelf fork portion 22 like teeth of a comb, which is fixed on the longitudinal outside of the vehicle and elongated to the longitudinal inside, so as to support front and rear wheels 3 of the vehicle. The ascending/descending carriage 10 comprises a carriage fork portion 15 like the teeth of the comb, which supports the front and rear wheels 3 of the vehicle in a position not to interfere with the shelf fork portion 22 on a horizontal plane, a horizontal moving platform 16 which is positioned on the longitudinal inside of the vehicle so as to support the longitudinal inside of the carriage fork portion 15, and a horizontal moving device 18 which can horizontally move the horizontal moving platform 16 between the ascending/descending carriage and the storage shelves.
