The system (10) has a heater (1) e.g. evaporator burner, producing heat by burning a liquid fuel (6) e.g. diesel, and a feed pipe (5) supplying the fuel from a tank (2) to the heater. A feeding device (3) e.g. dosing pump, is arranged in the feed pipe for feeding defined quantities of the fuel to the heater. A return pipe (7) is provided for recycling the fuel from a downstream side of the feeding device to an upstream side of the feeding device, where the system is designed such that the fuel is fed by the feeding device and is recyclable via the return pipe when the heater is not working. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a mobile heating system with a feeding device.
