<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To monitor the service life of a smoothing capacitor assembled in a power conversion part that drives a motor of an elevator and performs replacement at an optimal timing. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Characteristics, such as a charging time constant, discharging time constant, ripple voltage, voltage sharing rate, surge voltage, inrush voltage, and temperatures of the smoothing capacitor 7 which is a monitoring object of the service life, are periodically measured, and countermeasures to be performed are sequentially changed from alarm, load control operation, to operation stop accompanying progress of deterioration of the characteristics of measured characteristic values.
