<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens and an imaging apparatus having a high variable power ratio, also, capable of achieving both a wide viewing angle and miniaturization, also, capable of satisfactorily correcting various aberrations, and also, capable of optically correcting a camera shake. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The zoom lens includes, in order from an object side: a first lens group of positive refractive power; a second lens group of negative refractive power, that is movable in an optical axial direction so as to vary the power; a third lens group of positive refractive power; a fourth lens group of positive refractive power, that is movable so as to correct the focal position and focus in accordance with the power variation; and a fifth lens group having a movable group that is movable in a direction vertical to the optical axis. The first lens group is constituted of five lenses, in order from the object side: a concave lens; a convex lens having a strong convex face directed to the image side; a cemented lens constituted of a concave lens having a strong concave face directed to the image side and a convex lens; and a convex lens having a strong convex face directed to the object side.
