PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a droplet discharge device capable of preventing air from entering a flow channel in a discharge head having a resin film plate in the lowermost layer, and its operation control method. SOLUTION: The discharge head 15a possessed by a recording apparatus 1 has a resin-made nozzle plate 46 provided so that the surface thereof forms an inner wall surface of a liquid flow channel 30a and the other surface thereof is exposed to the atmospheric air. In a recording mode, a nozzle hole 46a is positioned relatively high with respect to the liquid level in a cartridge 10 so as to cause the liquid in the liquid flow channel 30a to have a negative pressure. On the other hand, in an inactive mode, the nozzle hole 46a is positioned relatively low with respect to the liquid level in the cartridge 10 so as to cause the liquid in the liquid flow channel to have a positive pressure.
