PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus capable of appropriately predicting a temperature rise when applying gradient magnetic fields. SOLUTION: This magnetic resonance imaging apparatus is provided with: a gradient magnetic field coil for forming gradient magnetic fields in a plurality of directions in an imaging space; and a heat quantity estimation means estimating heat quantities generated by eddy currents generated by the formation of the gradient magnetic fields in the three directions respectively, wherein the heat quantity estimation means estimates the heat quantities based on the mutual interference of the eddy currents generated between gradient magnetic fields formed in the two or more directions.
