<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scavenging controller for a vehicle capable of favorably suppressing worsening of the exhaust emission by conducting the scavenging of the exhaust passage efficiently and effectively. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the vehicle 10 having an engine 200 including an exhaust pipe 215 furnished with an S/C catalyst 216 and an O<SB>2</SB>sensor 218 for controlling the air fuel ratio F/B of the fuel injection amount and arranged at the downstream of the S/C catalyst, an ECU 100 executes the scavenging control. In the scavenging control, a forced motoring is started by supplying a driving force from a starter 400 when ignition is put off. The forced motoring forms a suction flow directed from a suction pipe 207 to the exhaust pipe 215, and scavenging is accomplished. On the other hand, determination of the completion of scavenging is passed on the basis of the output voltage Vox of the O<SB>2</SB>sensor 218. That is, the ECU 100 determines that the area around the O<SB>2</SB>sensor 218 is substituted with atmosphere and the scavenging is completed, in case the sensor output voltage Vox has sunk to the atmospheric equivalent value Voxair or below, and the ECU stops the forced motoring and ends the scavenging control.
