PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phenolic resin that is easily produced even having mesogenic group and is excellent in solubility in organic solvents, moreover, its cured product is excellent in heat resistance and in toughness. SOLUTION: The polyhydric phenol resin has within its moleculare structure a structure represented by formula 1 (wherein, plural Rs exist independently and each represents hydrogen, 1C-4C alkyl, phenyl or 1C-4C alkoxy; m is a natural number of 1-3; and plural Ps exist independently and each represents hydrogen, 1-3C alkyl, phenyl or 1C-3C alkoxy; and s is a natural number of 1-2), and has more than two hydroxy groups per one molecule.
