The method involves determining a position signal (1) of steering adjustment of an electromechanical steering wheel (10) of a vehicle, where the position signal comprises steering wheel angle, motor angle of a servomotor (27) of the steering wheel and pinion angle of a pinion of a steering gear. An assistance force control signal (2) is determined depending on the position signal, a characteristic line (3) as a function of the position signal and speed signal (4) for adjusting assistance force (13) of the steering wheel. An independent claim is also included for a system for operating an electromechanical steering wheel of a vehicle, comprising a positioning device.
