Agent (I) comprises at least one cationic benzo[cd]indolium compound (Ia). Agent (I) comprises at least one cationic benzo[cd]indolium compound of formula (Ia). Either R 1>-R 3>1-6C alkyl, 2-6C alkenyl, 2-6C monohydroxyalkyl, 2-6C polyhydroxyalkyl, 1-6C alkoxy-1-6C-alkyl, amino-1-6C alkyl, di-1-6C-alkylamino-2-6C alkyl, cyano-1-6C alkyl or (hetero)aryl, preferably allyl; and R 4>-R 7>H, 1-6C alkyl, 2-6C alkenyl, 2-6C monohydroxyalkyl, 2-6C polyhydroxyalkyl, 1-6C alkoxy-2-6C-alkyl, cyano-1-6C alkyl, (hetero)aryl, halo, OH, 1-6C alkoxy, amino, di(1-6C alkyl)amino, carboxy, sulfonic acid or 1-6C alkoxycarbonyl; or R 1>R 4>, R 2>R 3>, R 2>R 6>, R 3>R 7>, R 6>R 7>5- or 6-membered optionally saturated carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring; and X ->anion. With the proviso that at least one of R 1>-R 3>is 2-6C alkenyl. Independent claims are included for: (1) a method for dyeing keratin fibers, preferably human hair, comprising optionally applying a pre-treatment agent (M1) on the fiber, applying an agent (M2) on the fiber, if desired, adding an agent (M3) before the application of (M2), rinsing (M2) from the fiber after a period of 5-30 minutes, after treating, optionally applying aftertreatment agent (M4) to the fiber, and rinsing after a contact time of several minutes, where at least one of the agents (M1), (M2) or (M3) is the agent (I); and (2) salts of 1-allyl-2-[4-(dimethylamino)phenyl]benzo[cd]indolium, 1-allyl-2-[4-(dimethylamino)-2-methoxyphenyl]benzo[cd]indolium, 2-[4-(diallylamino)phenyl]-1-methylbenzo[cd]indolium and 2-[4-(diallylamino)phenyl]-1-ethylbenzo[cd]indolium.
