PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of simultaneously quantizing a plurality of pixel sequences in simple configuration in accordance with an error diffusion system, without the need to perform complicated timing control. SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus comprises a first error diffusion means, a second error diffusion means and an error diffusion selection control means. In the first error diffusion means, a quantization error, which is caused when quantizing respective pixels from one end of a pixel sequence to the other end sequentially, is diffused to a non-processed pixel in a processing pixel sequence including a pixel of interest to be quantized and to a pixel positioned more on the side of the other end than the pixel of interest in a pixel sequence adjacent to the processing pixel sequence and including the non-processed pixel. In the second error diffusion means, the quantization error is diffused to the non-processed pixel of the processing pixel sequence including the pixel of interest and a pixel more on the side of the one end than at least the pixel of interest in the pixel sequence adjacent to the processing pixel sequence and including the non-processed pixel. In the error diffusion selection control means, control is performed to quantize the pixels while selecting any one of the first error diffusion means and the second error diffusion means for each pixel sequence.
