<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a virtual storage system of high reliability and high fastness, and a virtual storage area using method. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This virtual storage system includes an unoccupied area management means 203a for receiving an address of an unoccupied area in a storage device provided in each information terminal and a capacity thereof, from the plurality of information terminals, and for preparing an unoccupied area management table 13a, a memory area determining means 201a for calculating an area usable in mutual backup in each information terminal, based on the unoccupied area management table 13a, and for preparing a usable area management table 12a for a virtual storage area, and a backup management means 202a for storing a backup data of the objective terminal, that is one of the plurality of information terminals, with overlapping with the other of the plurality of information terminals, after enciphered, for supporting processing for storing the enciphered backup data of the other information terminal as the mutual backup, in the storage area of the objective terminal, and for preparing a backup management table 11a described with a storage situation of the backup data in each virtual backup area.
