<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fishing reel in which the shaking of a handle in a reverse direction can be prevented to improve the quality of the reel. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The fishing reel is fabricated by freely rotatably disposing a high speed gear for winding a line at a high speed and a low speed gear for winding the line at a low speed on the outer periphery of a cylindrical handle shaft mounted with a handle, slidably disposing an engaging member engaged with either the high speed gear or the low speed gear to transmit a power from the handle shaft along the handle mandrel in a rotation-stopped state, and mounting an operation member for setting the position of the engaging member in a state capable of pressing the operation member into the handle shaft from the outside, and further by contacting the rolling member of a rolling type one-way clutch with the outer periphery of the handle shaft, permitting the one-way rotation of the handle shaft with the rolling type one-way clutch, inhibiting the other-way rotation, and freely rotatably supporting the handle shaft on the reel body through bearings placed in the axial direction side portion of the rolling type one-way clutch.
