<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a die for press forming of a metallic member of a hat-shaped section, and to provide a press forming method thereof. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The die for press forming comprises a punch and a die having a ceiling part and a longitudinal wall part, and a bent part in the plane in the longitudinal direction. The punch and the die have a tapered step on one of the longitudinal wall parts to form an upper longitudinal wall part and a lower longitudinal wall part. A metallic member of a hat-shaped section having the high dimensional accuracy and the shape consistency can be obtained by executing the press forming on a ridge part formed by the step and the lower longitudinal wall part in an area including the bent part or in an area including an area where the tensile stress is generated during the press forming in the metallic member of the hat-shaped section by using the die for press forming having a fillet part with its peripheral length of the section being shorter than the periphery.
