<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize a method for operating a cupola furnace with respect to conditions peculiar to fusion of mineral raw materials for producing mineral wool. <P>SOLUTION: The mineral wool is produced by fusing mineral raw materials in a cupola furnace. The cupola furnace has a shaft part 11 for holding raw materials, a grate 7 is provided to the lower part of the shaft part 11, and a combustion chamber 2 equipped with a fused matter discharge port is disposed beneath the grate 7. The combustion chamber 2 is heated by one or more burners 6 operating combustion with a liquid or gaseous fuel and oxygen-containing gas. Thus, the operation of each burner is controlled so that the length of flame emanated roughly along the burner axial center during the combustion of fuel with the oxygen-containing gas is controlled to be within the range of 60-100%, preferably 65-95% of the interval distance to the wall face in the combustion chamber opposing to the burner axial center direction passing through the center of the combustion chamber. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
