<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily perform various remote control operations. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The case of a remote control apparatus 10 is comprised of a polyhedron, for example, a hexahedron. Operation parts 22-1 to 22-6 are provided to respective surfaces of the case. A main operation surface discrimination signal generation part 31 generates a discrimination signal for setting a surface in a predetermined direction, for example, the upper surface of the case as a main operation surface regardless of a direction of the case. A control part 41 discriminates the main operation surface on the basis of the discrimination signal. While assigning control functions to the operation parts provided to the respective surfaces, the control part 41 validates the control function of an operation part provided to the main operation surface. When the operation button of the operation part provided to the main operation surface is operated, the control part 41 generates a remote control signal indicating a command for executing the control function assigned to the operation button and transmits the remote control signal from transmission parts 52-1 to 52-6.
