An ink composition that can be prevented from aggregating, form an image free from white streaks and harshness even in low-resolution printing, achieve high dissolution of clogging and high-temperature storage stability, and form a high-quality image, particularly an image having excellent hue is provided. An ink composition that contains at least a pigment, water, an alcohol solvent, a dispersant, and a surfactant, in which the alcohol solvent contains a poorly water-soluble alkane diol, a water-soluble 1,2-alkane diol optionally having a branched chain, and a water-soluble 1,3-alkane diol or alkylene glycol optionally having a branched chain, and the dispersant contains an oxyethyl acrylate resin, is used in an ink jet recording method.
