PURPOSE: A camera module having a backlight compensation function and a method for the same are provided to supply evenly-bright image in a backlight environment. CONSTITUTION: An image sensor unit(310) forms an image by converting a subject image received through a lens into an electric signal. An image processing unit(320) splits the image into plural images, and calculates luminance level value and average brightness value. A controller(330) selects a high-definition region by comparing the brightness level value with the average brightness value. When the number of high-definition regions is over a critical value, the control unit performs brightness compensation for each region.
