A communication device 10 comprises a database 20 of records relating to messages to be sent to recipients, communication addresses for the recipients and unique identifiers. The device 10 is arranged to select a first communication address from which a first message is sent to a first communication device 40 and to select a second communication address from which a second message is sent to the first communication device unless the first communication device has responded to the first message before the second message has been sent. If a number of messages need to be sent, the database records are transferred to a message server 30 for actioning. The messages may be SMS, email or MMS. When a recipient responds to a message, the communication address to which the response is sent (ie destination) and the communication address of the recipient (ie source) enable the device 10 to correlate the received message with the originally sent message. Since the source and destination addresses of the received reply are considered, the same communication address (ie reply address) can be used for messages sent to more than one recipient. However, if more than one message is sent to the same recipient then a different reply address is associated with each message.
