The invention comprises novel pyrrolidine derivatives of the formulµ both of which are shown in the enolic form, and wherein R1 is H or unsubstituted or substituted alkyl or aryl and Ac is an acyl group. The 4- acylthiomethylpyrrolidines are obtained by reacting pyrrolidine derivatives of the Formula V in which R2 and R3 are the same or different alkyl or aralkyl groups, or, together with the N-atom, are a heterocyclic ring system, with the appropriate organic thiocarboxylic acids in the presence of alkali-metal thiocarboxylates. The 4-mercaptomethylpyrrolidine derivatives are obtained from the corresponding 4-acylthiomethylpyrrolidines by acid alcoholysis.
