PURPOSE: An apparatus for elevator rope braking is provided to improve braking power applied to a rope actuating in raising or lowering an elevator cage on a rope by forming a concave part and a convex part on a pair of brake pads. CONSTITUTION: A rope is located between a pair of brake plates. A plurality of binding holes are formed in the edge of first and second brake pads(10,20). The first and the second brake pad are respectively combined with a pair of brake plates. A convex part(11) is formed in the center of the first brake pad. A concave part is formed in the center of the second brake pad. The convex part and concave part have a C-shape. A rope insertion groove is formed one of the first and the second brake pad.
