The asymmetrical diffuser (13) is first made in its final contours. The lower region is then formed to a shape closely approaching the final contour (10'). The lower region is then finished accurately to its final contour (10). Laser beams from at least one laser are used to make the hole. These can be pulsed and have a pulse length. Electron beams may be used in the same way, as an alternative to laser beams. To make the initially-unfinished or coarse shape of the diffuser, longer pulse lengths of 500 ns or more are used. Alternatively shorter pulses no greater than 500 ns in length are used. To make the unfinished shape of the lower region, longer pulse lengths of 500 ns or more are used. When finishing the diffuser or lower region, the shorter pulse lengths are used. Alternatively the longer pulse lengths may be used to finish the lower region. The lower region is symmetrical, whereas the diffuser is asymmetrical. When using shorter pulses, the laser or electron beam is moved in an XY-plane. The component processed, is for a gas turbine. |
