The burner has a gas inlet pipe (2) for a mixture of fuel gas and a combustion air. A catalytically active, gas permeable body (3) is arranged between the gas inlet pipe and a combustion zone (8), where the mixture flows to the zone through the body. The body is designed for partial oxidation and combustion of the mixture in a combustion stage and comprises a lateral outlet (7) that is connected with the combustion zone. A partially combusted mixture is mixed with a secondary air (9) in the combustion zone and combusted in another combustion stage.
