Heater for a motor vehicle

The heater has an electrical generator with a control element (7) to control voltage generated by the generator. A cooling circuit (2) has a coolant, where heat of the control element is dissipated by the coolant. A heating unit (13) through which the coolant is passed heats air (14) supplied to a passenger area. A heat storage (15) i.e. latent storage, stores an amount of heat dissipated from the control element by the coolant, where the stored amount of heat is selectably discharged. An operating unit of the storage partly absorbs the amount of heat from the coolant by phase conversion.
