Telephone with surveillance mode

The method involves providing a sensible terminal i.e. telephone (2), for voice telephony in a spatial environment i.e. closed room (1). The terminal is switched into a monitoring mode to enable the reception of acoustic signals from the environment. Data corresponding to the signals is sent to a centrally accessible server (6) via a telephone network (5) e.g. internet, where the server automatically analysis the data for presence of erroneous noise. An error message is generated by the server and transmitted to a predetermined alarm receiver, when the erroneous noise is detected. An independent claim is also included for a system for monitoring a spatial environment i.e. closed room.
