Apparatus for applying fluid gasket material to the interiors of closure caps includes a circular spinning chuck 10 to which inverted closures are fed singly and held by suction applied centrally through the chuck, whilst gasket material is supplied by a nozzle 11 positioned thereabove. The chuck, which may be of rubber, is mounted at the top of a vertically reciprocable rotary shaft, and when a closure is fed to it over a flat surface it lies flush with the surface, but during the application of gasket material the chuck is raised to bring the closure interior closely adjacent the nozzle outlet. A heater 12 ensures the fluidity of the gasket material. Closures are fed to the chuck via a shoot 2, and by an endless conveyer 3 and a reciprocatory push plate 4, assisted by an air nozzle 27. A pneumatically operated plunger controls a stopper member 8 which intermittently controls the feeding of the closures against a surface 5a of the push plate. During movement of a closure by the plate, the closure is restrained by a plate 9 hinged at 28, 29 which bears down on to it in an adjustable manner. The end 24 of the plate is spaced from the chuck centre a distance slightly greater than the chuck radius. After the application of the gasketing material, the chuck is lowered and fingers 13, 14, associated with the pusher plate 4, remove a closure from the chuck as a fresh one is supplied. The closures are fed to an oven where the gasket material is cured. |
