PURPOSE: A channel decoding apparatus and a method thereof for efficiently using a channel decoder of a receiving device in a mobile communications system are provided to improve the performance of the receiving device by performing a pre-decoding process. CONSTITUTION: A pre-decoder(104) performs a pre decoding process. The pre-decoder confirms whether there is an error after confirming a decoding value by using a lookup table in the pre-decoding process. The pre-decoder transmits a response in case there is not an error. A channel decoder performs a channel decoding process in case there is an error.
