Wear measurement system - for continuous monitoring of drill string pipes during drilling

An elongated casing is lowered down to the bore on a cable and has a clear centre channel for drilling mud. Within the casing a synchronous motor drives a rotating active electromagnetic sensor fed from an a.c. supply. Recording instruments on the surface produce a synchronized continuous log of instanteous depth and of the internal dimensions of the pipe relative to centre line.
