This is a device developed with the purpose of exposing the surfaces of a toilet seat to moderate or high levels of ultraviolet (UV) light with the intent of renderi ng exposed surfaces sterilized. The device has a particular suitability to medical facilities, public washrooms and other high traffic toilets. While several variations in design are possible to include surface areas routinely contacted by human skin, the primary desi gn is relatively simple, placing the UV radiation source on the top cover of the toilet seat, with automatic activation of UV only when cover is in place over the seat. The UV turns off automatically when the seat cover is lifted for use. There are various design possibilities where light source may be placed with in the top cover, bottom seat, or a separate add on component ideally sandwiched betwee n the two parts.
