<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently reduce damage by mitigating an impact on a pedestrian in a vehicle collision with the pedestrian. <P>SOLUTION: A vehicle headlight has a lamp unit 6 having a discharge lamp 8 as a light source which is disposed in a lighting fixture enclosure 4 formed by a lamp housing 2 and a cover 3, and a discharge lamp lighting device 18 disposed below the lamp unit to light the discharge lamp.
