<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass coating agent suitable for on-site application. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The glass coating agent forms an inorganic layer of inert transparent ceramics on a glass surface and contains an aqueous peroxotitanic acid solution and lithium silicate. The glass coating agent is produced particularly by mixing an aqueous peroxotitanic acid solution and an aqueous alcohol solution to prepare a peroxotitanium-containing aqueous alcohol solution, mixing lithium silicate and an aqueous alcohol solution to prepare a lithium silicate-containing aqueous alcohol solution, and mixing the peroxotitanium-containing aqueous alcohol solution and the lithium silicate-containing aqueous alcohol solution. The alcohol concentration of the peroxotitanium-containing aqueous alcohol solution is made higher than that of the lithium silicate-containing aqueous alcohol solution.
