The method involves providing an exhaust gas recirculation line (8) between an inlet pipe (2) and an exhaust pipe (3). A portion of an exhaust gas is regulated and supplied again to an internal combustion engine (1). A desired value for regulating the portion of the exhaust gas is evaluated and supplied again to the internal combustion engine independence of dynamics of the internal combustion engine. The dynamics of the internal combustion engine is characterized by temporal change of characteristics of the internal combustion engine.
