The present invention provides a method for realizing handover between mobility management domains, and the method includes: a local mobility anchor LMA1 of a first mobility management domain to which a mobile node MN initially attaches is determined as a session mobility anchor SMA, and a first connection between the MN and the LMA1 is established; a second connection between the MN and a mobility anchor LMA2 of a second mobility management domain is established; a bi-directional tunnel is established between the LMA2 and the SMA; a proxy binding relationship of the SMA is updated; data sent and received by the MN is forwarded through the SMA and transmitted through the bi-directional tunnel. The present invention also provides a corresponding network entity. The present invention solves the problem of handover between PMIPv6 domains, provides a more efficient path of data forwarding and less communication delay, employs a network-based mobility management scheme, doesn't require a terminal to participate at all, and is easy to realize.
