<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new polynucleotide encoding an enzyme having improved heat stability and, a plant when expressed in the plant, resulting in increased yield in the plant grown under conditions of heat stress. <P>SOLUTION: The mutant polynucleotide encodes maize endosperm ADP glucose pyrophosphorylase (AGP) and soluble starch synthase (SSS) enzyme activity.
