PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate to sensuously understand in which direction a vehicle has to turn at a crossing while traveling in a mode in which the traveling direction of the vehicle is not toward an upper part of the screen. SOLUTION: This map display is equipped with a present position detecting means 2 for detecting a present position and a traveling direction of the vehicle, a display means 7 for displaying a map in either one display mode of a first map display mode wherein the map is displayed/controlled so that the detected traveling direction of the vehicle is toward an upper part of the screen and a second map display mode wherein the map is displayed/controlled in a method different from the first map display mode, an operation means 3 for selecting a map display mode in which displaying is made by the display means, and a control means 1 for causing the display means to display a road map together with a vehicle present position icon in the display mode selected by the operation means. When the second map display mode is selected by the operation means, the control means adds a direction display interlocking with a direction indicator to the position icon displayed by the display means.
