<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system, mobile station, peripheral area information providing server, and communication method, for preventing communication quality from being reduced when the mobile station moves between different mobile communication networks. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A peripheral area information acquisition section 32 of a mobile station 30 acquires peripheral area information of a current network. A network detecting section 31 detects an available network of the mobile station 30. A moving direction estimating section 35 estimates a future moving direction of the mobile station 30 on an area map. An optimal network selecting section 36 selects a network to be used next from among networks which are available and present in the estimated moving direction of the mobile station 30. When an outward movement determining section 34 determines that the mobile station 30 will move to the outside of the current network, a location registration processing implementing section 37 performs location registration on the selected network.
