The present invention relates to a method for producing terephthalic acid, including the steps of: 1) mixing a solid phase crude terephthalic acid, containing at least one intermediate of para-toluic acid and 4-carboxybenzaldehyde, with an acetic acid solvent or an aqueous solution of acetic acid to form a slurry; and 2) enabling the slurry to be oxidation-reacted into a terephthalic acid in a reactor under the existence of a) a first catalyst system containing one or more elements selected from the group consisting of a cobalt precursor and a manganese precursor, and a bromine precursor, or b) a second catalyst system containing a cobalt precursor and a manganese precursor.
