The method involves impinging the interior of the compressed gas containers (2) initially with an inert gas at a positive pressure of 0.1 bars and a temperature in a range of 20 to 110 degree Celsius. The compressed gas containers are contaminated with microorganisms. The compressed gas containers are then evacuated by the application of a negative pressure of 0.1 bars. The inert gas is nitrogen.
